Lesson Plan Theme: Food and Cooking

Description: Children have strong emotions about food (yuk!!) and this lesson uses those emotions to practice like/don't like as well as teaching/revising some food vocabulary. The lesson finishes with a guided writing practice where students use prepositions of place among other things.

Description: The lesson starts with some food vocabulary and ways of expressing like/dislike for each. The grammatical focus of the lesson is the use of the negative form of the Present Simple tense, especially in this lesson for 3rd person. There is also work on /s/ and /z/ phonemes, important for the correct pronunciation of doesn't. A writing game that brings together both Present Simple negative and food vocabulary closes off the lesson.

Description: The lesson opens with a word unscrambling exercise to practice rooms/furniture combinations. The focus of the lesson moves onto colors and there is a semantic grid exercise to work on vocabulary. The lesson finishes with an enjoyable quiz game based around colors.

Description: Some practice at cooking vocabulary. The students listen to two friends making apple pie and do some work on quantifiers such as many, much, a lot and a little.

Description: Two friends make chicken pie. Cooking vocabulary and a focus on the imperative verb form used in the conversation between the two friends.

Description: Students talk together about their eating out preferences, then prepare for a role play activity in which they solve (hopefully!) the problems of a fictional local restaurant.

Description: Talking about personal likes and dislikes to help with the tricky both/neither area of grammar.
