C2 Proficiency - Key Word Transformations Exercise 4

In these exercises, you need to take the information in the first sentence and re-write it, using the word in bold so that the second sentence has exactly the same meaning. You cannot change the word in bold in ANY way. You must use a minimum of THREE and a maximum of EIGHT words for each space. Contractions, which count as two words, should only be used for negatives: e.g. don't / hadn't / wouldn't, etc.

1. You are not a bad lawyer Martin, but I don't think it is a very suitable job for you.
I just don't think you a lawyer.

2. I don't have the foggiest idea whether he will be coming or not.
I have whether he will be coming or not.

3. He failed the exam as he didn't work as fast as the rest of the class.
His failure was blamed on his inability rest of the class.

4. Everyone is criticising the government for its poor unemployment record
The government over its unemployment record.

5. He was always going to leave that house after the divorce was finalised.
He the house after the divorce.

6. I don't find it at all surprising that nobody came to the party.
It's nobody came to the party.

7. Please don't tell anyone else what I told you about Elizabeth.
yourself what I told you about Elizabeth.

8. Our boss is absolutely determined not to give us that pay rise.
Our boss the pay rise.
