ESL Teaching Guide - Austria
Rev. Dr Rodney C. Simmonds - May 2004
I am from England and teaching in Austria for the last six years. I get paid between €21 - €40 an hour. In Austria the need for English language teachers has been decreasing especially in business due to the poor business climate. Much competition tends to keep rates of pay low. The standard of English being taught in the schools is improving so there is a much less need for beginner English courses than there were previously. Rates of pay per hour have not risen in the six years that I have been here but the cost of living of course has gone up especially with the change from Schillings to Euros.
