Four Role Models

Jump to exercise walkthrough video

Read the four accounts (A, B, C, and D) of people's role models. For each question, decide which person's role model is being described.

Role Models

A. My Older Sister

My role model is my older sister, Maria. When we were growing up, she was always the brave one. If I was scared to try something new, like riding a bike or speaking in a school play, she would always encourage me and tell me I could do it. She is a very determined person who never gives up on her goals. From her, I learned that it is important to face your fears and that confidence is a skill you can build with practice.

B. My First Boss

The person I admire most is my first boss, Mr Evans. He ran a small bookshop where I worked as a teenager. He was incredibly kind and fair to everyone, both his staff and his customers. He taught me the importance of treating people with respect, no matter who they are. He also showed me that running a successful business does not mean you have to be loud or aggressive; you can be quiet, patient, and still be a great leader.

C. A Famous Scientist

I have always been inspired by the scientist Marie Curie. I read a book about her life and was amazed by her intelligence and her dedication to her work. She worked incredibly hard in a time when it was very difficult for women to be taken seriously in science. Her discoveries changed the world. Her life story taught me that you should follow your passion with everything you have, even if the world puts obstacles in your way.

D. My Grandfather

My grandfather is my hero. He did not have an easy life, but he was always the most positive and cheerful person I knew. He has a wonderful sense of humour and could find something to laugh about in any situation. He taught me that your happiness does not depend on how much money you have or what job you do. It comes from appreciating the small things in life and sharing kindness with the people around you.
