Language Learning Apps
A. Review by Tom
I used 'Polyglot Pal' to improve my Spanish. It is fantastic for vocabulary building, with thousands of flashcards and fun quizzes. You can even create your own study sets. The best feature is the offline mode, which means you can continue learning when you have no internet, like on a plane. However, the grammar explanations are not very clear, and there is no option to practise speaking with other users. It is not expensive, which is a big advantage.
B. Review by Sarah
'SpeakEasy' is different from other apps. Its main focus is on communication. You get connected with native speakers for short, 15-minute video conversations. It is a bit scary at first, but it is the best way to improve your confidence. It doesn't focus on formal teaching or grammar exercises, so you need to learn that somewhere else. It is a subscription service, so you have to pay every month, which can cost a lot over time.
C. Review by Ben
I tried 'GrammarPro' because my teacher recommended it. This app is perfect if you want to understand how a language is built. It has hundreds of clear lessons on things like verb tenses and sentence structure, with lots of exercises to check your understanding. It feels a bit like a digital textbook. It is not very exciting, and there are no games or videos, but it is incredibly effective for serious students who want to get a high grade in an exam.
D. Review by Lucy
'LingoQuest' turns language learning into an adventure. Every lesson is a game where you earn points and unlock new levels. It is very colourful and fun, so you forget you are even studying. It is great for beginners to learn basic phrases and vocabulary. The only problem is that it does not go to a very high level. Once you know the basics, the lessons start to feel a bit too simple and repetitive.
