Local Parks
A. King's Park
King's Park is a large, open space, perfect for people who love sports. There are several football pitches and two new tennis courts that you can use for free. After a game, you can get a drink and a snack at the small cafe next to the courts. It is always busy with young people and is a great place to get some exercise with friends, especially at the weekend.
B. Mill Lane Park
Mill Lane Park is a very peaceful place. It is famous for its beautiful big lake in the centre. You can walk around the lake on a lovely path and watch the ducks and swans. There are many trees and it is a wonderful place to escape the noise of the city. It is not a place for loud games, but it is perfect for a quiet afternoon walk alone or with a friend.
C. Victoria Gardens
Victoria Gardens is the best park for a family day out. It has a fantastic big playground with lots of things for young children to climb on and play with. There are also large, clean grass areas where you can sit and have a picnic. In summer, a small shop by the main gate sells delicious ice cream, which is very popular with visitors of all ages.
D. Greenwood Park
Greenwood Park is famous for its wonderful rose gardens, which are full of colour in spring and summer. It is a popular place for special events. Often at the weekend, you can listen to free concerts. There is a stage near the old fountain. It is a lovely place to take photos of the beautiful plants or just sit on a bench and listen to the music.
