Intermediate Level >> Games >> Practice of modal verbs. Students working alone or in pairs devise a list of problems they have in their lives. Then they throw three dice and the advice they receive for their problem depends on the number they throw.
Modal Game of Chance.
Intermediate
Students working either alone or in small groups put together a list of questions or problems connected with their lives. Questions should be written starting "Should I...?"
The questions can be about work, school, families or anything connected with the lives of the students.
e.g.
Should I ask Maria Fernandez to the disco on Saturday night?
Should I study Zoology next year at school?
Should I ask my boss for a pay rise?
Students then take it in turns to throw three dice to find the solution to their problems. This is a good opportunity for teachers to ham it up a little...."what does Dame Fortuna say...?" etc, etc.
They take one of 15 cards, depending on what score they get with the dice. The teacher's role at this point will be to explain some of the vaguer answers and to ensure the different modals are not causing problems.
