the levels on esl loungeIt is important to note that there are no hard and fast rules as to what you will find in each level, but I have provided this guide to give teachers an approximate idea of the level classifications on esl lounge. It is important to remember that will obviously be some overlapping between the levels. Just because past simple is listed under Elementary, there will still be materials pertaining to the past simple under higher levels, but usually not lower. Clearly, every area of the language can be taught or tested asking more or less of the students you are teaching. There can be some basic "jumping through hoops" grammar worksheets or some other materials which test the same grammatical point but require much more learner input from the students. For this reason, you shouldn't rely too much on the information given below. Also remember that each level will have its own resources for vocabulary and conversation, etc. level 1a beginners
level 1b elementary
level 2 pre-intermediate
level 3 intermediate
level 4 upper intermediate
level 5 advancedAt this level, students take exams such as First Certificate, CAE and TOEFL. The amount of new grammar at this level is minimal. There are materials included for:
level 6 plus proficiencyThis is the level at which the very highest level exams such as Advanced or Proficiency are taken. There is very little or nothing in the way of new grammar but the materials found here are suitable for those at the highest point in their English studies. |
