Dominoes to practise pronunciation of 'ooo', 'oo' and 'ow' sounds.
As in normal dominoes, students have to put words that have the same sounds together. The three sounds practised here are:

  • 'ooo' as in moon
  • 'oo' as in book
  • 'ow' as in house

Word Stress Worksheet.
To focus student attention on word stress within a sentence. Which word would be stressed?

Sounds in the Picture Game.
There are two pictures in this file but obviously you can use whatever pictures you want depending on the vocabulary involved. One student or group finds a particular phoneme in their picture: /i:/ for 'tree' and challenges the other student or team to find the same phoneme in their picture. Points are awarded for successful challenges or if the other student chooses a word that doesn't have that phoneme asked for.

Student have to find the one word that doesn't have the same sound as there is in the others.

As in normal dominoes, students have to put words that have the same sounds together. The three sounds practised here are:

  • 'ch' as in church
  • 'sh' as in rush
  • 'zi' as in vision

 

 

Rhyming Pair Game.
Card turning game where students must match words that rhyme. A student turning over 'mouse' and 'house' would thus win a point.

As in normal dominoes, students have to put words that have the same sounds together. The two sounds practised here are:

  • 'h' as in house
  • '(h)' as in (h)our

Pronunciation Of Third Person Present Simple
The pronunciation of third person "s" at present simple is on one of the early problems that elementary students face with three different phonemes possible. In this activity, students put verbs into one of three possible columns depending on the pronunciation of the word ending.
